Middleburg Retreat

MIDDLEBURG RETREAT

In October 2020, these clients opted to exchange their home in Georgetown for a quiet, idyllic 10 acre site in Fauquier County. Adjacent to the Wexford Farm (former Onassis/ Kennedy property) they purchased the property with a number of dilapidated existing structures that had been neglected for many years. Studio 360 created a modern home that would suit the design aesthetic they craved for their family in a rural location.

Design directives included a complete overhaul of the existing structure on both exterior and interior. The clients desired a palette that anchored the home to the site and reflected the history of the surrounding area. A combination of stone and board and batton was utilized to suggest a series of additions over time.  On the interior, the clients desired a large open kitchen with maximized views to the rear yard.  Current events dictated the need for 2 home offices, and 2 additional bedrooms for college and school aged children.   Incorporating some existing furniture pieces and an art collection from previous years lived in Hawaii became important to the finished spaces.  Unique elements include the re purposing of an existing “secondary” stair to the second floor while exposing brick at the chimney, as well as mimicking the stonework found in other vernacular applications in the town and neighboring farms.
